70 x 51 3/4". This is a contemporary flag, designed by an accomplished and exceptionally skilled textile artist. He follows in the footsteps of the early textile artists commissioned by the Fon court to produce these textiles which were symbols of the king of the Fon people, of the ancient Kingdom of Abomey. Click on the image to see two other versions of this same flag. The second one measures 60 x 59 1/2" and the third one measures 57 1/2 x 51". The second and third are $350 each.

4 7/8" long (12.4 cm). This is a typical example of one of the objects included on the top of an asen. Asen are stuck into the ground near the family house in memory of a deceased member of the family. Asen are iron stakes with round flat tops adorned with a wide variety of objects which presumably evoke the spirit of the individual the stake represents. The same thing can be said about so many of the other designs available across the continent but this one is truly among the most unusual. The round top measures 15 1/2" in diameter (39 cm).
